Alright, I'm broke and I needed a new bike. I have spent soo much time caught up in the hype of new bikes and bling components, that I forgot how much fun it is to just pedal around and enjoy myself. In an attempt to regain some of that feeling, I bought a Redline mono cog (available at both locations). Cheap, quiet and utterly reliable, the monocog is proving to me that riding is way too much fun.
Riding to work, the bike clips along at a good pace and makes real time on the streets. I've even spun rite past a roadie who was taking his ride way too seriously. On the mountain; however, I learned that singlespeeding is ultra rewarding. When you have to focus on sticking your line precisely, maintaining momentum, and looking for the smoothest lines possible, you forget about the seriousness of what you're doing.
Riding the desert classic on a singlespeed mkes me feel like I am learning to ride all over again. It's a wonderfull way to get back to basics and enjoy yourself. Everything is harder to accomplish and when you do, you'll feel amazed at what you have done. Soon I will be strong again, and not afraid to try anything, there is no room for error on this bike, NO slop at all... stick it or forget it.
So I would suggest to anyone that is bored with their normal rides, Convert your bike or buy a dedicated singlespeed... Those trails you're bored of will become technicall and demanding epics, and maybe, just maybe you'll remember how fun it is to ride your bike again.
